Verify a Michigan contractor license

Michigan licenses the trades that install standby generators — electrical contractors, and the mechanical and plumbing contractors that handle gas lines. Every license is public record. Enter a license number below and we'll take you straight to the state's official record (on LARA's licensing portal), where you can see the license status, expiration date, and the permit history behind it.

Michigan contractor numbers are 7 digits: 61… electrical, 71… mechanical, 80… plumbing.

No license number? Search by name

If a company hasn't published a license number, you can search the state's records by business or individual name on LARA's license search. Choose a license type (Electrical Contractor is the usual one for generator work) and enter the name.

What to look for

We link to the State of Michigan's own records (michigan.gov / LARA's Accela portal) and never store or alter them. A license verifies legal qualification — pair it with proof of insurance and references before hiring.
