How this directory is built

Search for "generator installer near me" and most of what comes back is lead-generation sites and directories that list every electrician in the state, whether or not they've ever set a standby unit. This directory takes a different approach: we find the companies, read what each one says about itself, and publish the classification.

The pipeline

1. Discover. Broad web-search sweeps across a state's metros, county seats, and rural anchor towns surface candidate installer websites. Aggregators, marketplaces, and lead-gen sites are filtered out.
2. Read. We fetch each company's own website — homepage plus its generator, service-area, and about pages.
3. Classify. Each company is classified from that text: does it actually do standby-generator work, which brands does it install versus service, what services does it offer, and where does it say it works. Companies that don't do generator work are dropped.
4. Normalize. Self-stated service areas are checked against the Census gazetteer so county and town pages reflect real, in-state places.

What the tiers mean

• Generator specialist: Standby generators are the core business — sales, installation, and service.
• Authorized dealer: A factory-authorized dealer for one or more generator brands, typically handling warranty service.
• Electrical contractor: An electrical contractor that installs standby generators alongside general electrical work.
• HVAC / plumbing contractor: An HVAC or plumbing company that installs standby generators alongside its main trade.

Specialists and authorized dealers are listed first on every page. That's the editorial judgment of this site: for a four-figure installation with a decade-long service relationship, start with the companies for whom this is the day job.

What we don't claim

Everything on a listing — brands, service areas, dealer status, license numbers — is what the company says about itself on its own website, read and classified by us. We don't verify licensing against state rosters (yet), we don't take payment for placement in the rankings, and we're not affiliated with any manufacturer. Before hiring, verify the contractor's electrical license with the state and confirm dealer status with the manufacturer if warranty coverage matters to you.
